Prague is one of the oldest and most important Jewish centers in Central Europe. To be able to give a tour inside its Synagogues, the Old Jewish Cemetery, or the Shoah Memorial of Prague you have to be licensed by the Jewish Museum of Prague (which I am). Let me introduce you to this place full of history, mysticism, and ancient architecture.

Let's start our exploring in the Maisel synagogue. It used to be a private synagogue founded by Mordecai Maisel, the Mayor of the Prague Jewish District. Today there is an interesting exhibition where we can learn about the history of the Czech Jewish community.
Today this place is the Memorial to the Victims of the Shoah from the Czech lands. We will see nearly 80000 names of Jewish victims written on the wall of this synagogue.
One of the most important sites in Prague. There are more than 12000 tombstones with interesting inscriptions and motives. Rabbi Judah Loew Ben Bezalel (famous Maharal) or mayor Mordecai Maisel are buried here.
This synagogue is the oldest site of the Josefov quarte. And the oldest preserved synagogue in Centra Europe. Stunning building from the 13th century is still an active place of worshipping.
Let's walk and explore the streets of the former Jewish Ghetto.
The youngest addition to the Jewish quarter in Prague. Built in the 19th century in Moorish interior design. Our last stop will be the exhibition where we can learn about the history of Czech Jews, especially during the Second World Warr.

If you want to visit the exhibitions and synagogues of Prague Jewish Muzeum your tour guide has to have a special license to do so!
Please note that the museums and synagogues are closed on Saturdays and High Jewish holidays.

Miriam used the Library & Hidden Neighborhood tour as a basis for a very personal experience. Communication with her eliminated going to spots we had been to in the days prior on other tours. Miriam became sick and arranged for Alzbeta to do our tour on a day's notice. She was one of the few licensed people that can get access into the restricted areas of Strahov library. Alzbeta was the most knowledgeable guide I've encountered in many years. She was also very personable, and we truly enjoyed the time spent. Some guides tend to recite a presentation, but Alzbeta shared stories with plenty of interaction. Highly recommend working with Miriam for a tour and visiting the inside of the Strahov library.
